Greece’s public and private sector unions ADEDY and GSEE will launch a 48-hour general strike on November 6th and 7th, 2012. The strike is the answer of the unions to the “barbaric anti-labour, anti-social and ineffective measures that will be voted through the Greek Parliament,” said GSEE in a statement.
“The measures impoverish workers, pensioners, unemployed, that is in general the ordinary people of the country, ‘legalize’ the austerity through tax-draining, sell off public assets and public enterprises. Suche measures and policies cause unemployment and recession to explode without providing salvation to the economy and the country.”
The austerity package of 13.5 billion euro will be voted on the parliament next week.
The unions wills stage a protest at Pedio Areos park at 11 a.m. on November 6th and a protest rally outside the Parliament at 5 p.m. on November 7th.
The austerity package will ‘exterminate’ millions of households with tax hikes for low and medium incomes, cuts pensions and Christmas/vacation bonuses even to low pensioners, scrap of social and welfare benefits and unemployment allowances, overthrow of labour rights and sharp cuts in the health care.
